GrETUA premieres “Recorder” with text by David Calão

“Recorder” is the final show of the 2024-2025 Theatre Training Course of GrETUA - Experimental Theatre Group of the University of Aveiro and has its premiere announced for today, at GrETUA, remaining on stage until the 18th. With directing by João Garcia Neto, João Tarrafa and Maria R. Soares, the text is by David Calão from Ilhavo and the interpretation is by Diogo Figueiredo, Daniela Lopes, Ana Conde and Inês Hermenegildo. Maria R. Soares explained to Diário de Aveiro that she sought to «work with a performative language that privileges “preparing to tell” rather than simply “telling”. The focus is not only on the narration of the story, but on the sensitive construction of the conditions for this story to emerge», adding that she treated the text «as a scenic object, passed from hand to hand, choreographed, manipulated with the same degree of physicality». As for the space... «it is reorganized, activated and failed». For the director, the tension between the desire to preserve a common memory and the confrontation with what is transformed in relationships (which the text addresses) «was the driving force behind the staging», recalling that David Calão managed to write «a text open enough to be approached from three different perspectives without losing its strength».
